The Role of Community Colleges in Workforce Transitions: The Case of Pillowtex in Kannapolis, North Carolina

This CAPSEE presentation was part of the IES Policy and Research Workshop titled “Disadvantaged Students, the College Pipeline, and Supportive Funding Opportunities.” Pillowtex, the largest company town in the United States, experienced mass layoffs in July 2003. This study followed up with workers who returned to community college after the layoffs to determine what role the community college played in their transition to new jobs.
