CAPSEE Researchers Win AEFP Award for Paper on Certificates

Di Xu and Madeline Joy Trimble have won the 2017 AEFP–Kauffman Foundation Award for their CAPSEE paper What About Certificates? Evidence on the Labor Market Returns to Non-Degree Community College Awards in Two States.

The award from the Association for Education Finance and Policy (AEFP) recognizes the best academic paper on the intersection of education and labor market outcomes.

“Your work exemplifies the caliber of scholarship that AEFP aims to recognize with this award,” said Jason Grissom, the chair of the AEFP Awards Committee, in informing Xu and Trimble of the award.

The award was officially announced on March 16 at the welcome reception at the AEFP Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The award comes with a $5,000 cash prize.

What About Certificates? was released as a CAPSEE working paper and published as an article in the AERA journal Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis. Xu is an assistant professor in the School of Education at the University of California, Irvine, and a research affiliate with the Community College Research Center (CCRC).
